Arriving in a new city is exciting and exhausting in equal measure. Sydney's rental market is competitive, its suburbs each have their own distinct character, and knowing which neighbourhood suits your lifestyle takes time you often don't have.
I've lived in Sydney for almost 30 years, and my relocation service combines that local knowledge with my experience in property to help newcomers understand the city, find the right place to live and secure a home. Whether you're arriving from overseas or interstate, I'll help you get your bearings quickly — and show you a Sydney which will surprise you.
I provide independent, personal relocation support for individuals, couples and families moving to Sydney from overseas or interstate. Area Orientation
Sydney is a city of neighbourhoods, and choosing where to live isn't as simple as drawing a radius around the office. Do you want to walk to the ferry in the morning or catch a train? A village atmosphere or somewhere right in the middle of things? Do you have a dog who needs a proper off-leash park? Children who are primary or high school age? And then there's the important stuff: Where's the best coffee? The laksa worth travelling across Sydney for? Authentic Thai or Vietnamese food? If beaches are part of the reason you're moving to Sydney, which Sydney do you imagine? Surf beaches and ocean pools, or quiet harbour beaches where you can swim or take the dog to before work? Most newcomers know Bondi. Far fewer realise just how many extraordinary beaches Sydney has tucked around its coastline and harbour.

Sydney can be surprisingly difficult to navigate when you don't know it. Two suburbs that look close on a map can offer completely different lifestyles. A seemingly perfect property may have a difficult commute. The suburb someone at work recommends may be completely wrong for your family. And good rental properties can appear, inspect and receive applications within daysI've lived in the Inner West for more than 20 years and now live on the Lower North Shore, but my work takes me all over Sydney. I know the differences between suburbs — and often between different pockets of the same suburb. My relocation service combines that local knowledge with my experience in property to help newcomers understand the city, find the right place to live and secure a home.
Home Search
Sydney rentals move quickly, and properties are generally far less likely to be furnished than in other major cities across the world. Once we've agreed your search area and brief, I monitor the market, liaise directly with local agents and identify properties genuinely worth considering. Depending on your circumstances, I can attend inspections with you or on your behalf, provide photographs/video walk throughs and give you the information the listing doesn't: the street, noise - does it sit next to a train track or under the flight path? - outlook, condition, access and whether I think the property actually works for you.

Finding a property you like is only half the job. For people arriving from overseas, the Australian rental application process can be unfamiliar, often a bit crazy — and agents will want documentation you hadn't thought of. I'll guide you through preparing your application, liaise with the agent, follow it through and negotiate the practical details of the tenancy, including rent, lease commencement date and lease term where appropriate. Let's talk
We start with where you're coming from, why you're moving, who's coming with you, your timing, budget, work location, schools if relevant and what you want your life in Sydney to look like. I will quickly let you know if the budget is realistic!
Find Your Sydney
In person if you're on the ground, I'll show you the areas that best fit your brief. This is about understanding how different parts of Sydney actually work as places to live, and finding the neighbourhoods that suit you. Of course, we'll see some sights along the way too, so you can send a few photos back to the folks at home that say, "We've arrived!"
Rental Search
Once we've narrowed down the location and property brief, I search the rental market, liaise with agents and inspect the properties worth pursuing, either with you or on your behalf. At this point, you'll probably hear me say "Trust the process." I'll keep you focused on the areas we've agreed on and the properties I've shortlisted, saving you time and avoiding the overwhelm that comes from trying to look at everything Sydney has to offer.
Secure
When we've found the right home, I help you prepare and progress your application, deal directly with the agent and negotiate the tenancy details through to approval.
Settle In
Need a little more help once the home is sorted? I can assist with additional relocation services such as school research, opening a bank account and other practicalities of getting established in Sydney. And then there's the local stuff - the foodie, lifestyle, day trip recommendations. Just ask. Frequently asked questions
Do you only help with rentals, or can you also help me buy later?
Relocation Consultancy is focused on helping you find and secure a rental home and settle into Sydney. If you later decide to purchase, I offer a full buyers agency service.
I'm arriving from overseas — can the orienation and search be done virtually?
Yes. Much of the search can begin before you arrive. I can advise on areas, shortlist properties, liaise with agents and attend suitable inspections on your behalf, providing video walk throughs and my assessment of the property and location. Note: most properties are secured quickly so there is no value to inspecting a property when you're not ready to move in for a month or more. I've helped clients secure homes while they were still overseas. The important thing is having the right documentation ready and being able to move quickly when the right property appears.
How competitive is Sydney's rental market?
Sydney's rental market moves quickly, particularly for good-quality homes in popular areas. It's not unusual for several people to apply for the same property on the same day, and inspections can be busy. I help you understand what represents good value, make sure we're ready to move quickly when the right home appears, liaise directly with the agent and help you put forward the strongest possible application to get ahead of the competition wherever possible.

I work across Sydney, helping clients identify the areas that best suit their lifestyle, commute, family needs and budget. My deepest local knowledge is in the Lower North Shore and Inner West, where I've lived and worked for decades, but your search isn't limited to those areas. I've helped relocation clients settle in suburbs across Sydney - from the East, North, to the CBD and to the Western Suburbs
How much does the Relocation Consultancy service cost?
My Sydney Welcome, Search & Secure package starts from $2,450 + GST. It covers the core relocation journey, from understanding where in Sydney will suit you, through to searching for and securing your rental home. The package includes an initial relocation consultation, personal area orientation, suburb and rental market advice, a targeted property search, an agreed number of property inspections, liaison with agents, application support and lease negotiation. Every relocation is different. If you need additional inspection days, more extensive school research or help with other aspects of settling into Sydney, I can tailor additional services to suit you.
